By contract with the European Commission, INDICATE was supposed to deliver two pilot applications to the Digital Cultural Heritage community:

• E-Infrastructure-enabled semantic search for cultural repositories, where data aggregated for the MICHAEL project  are being semantically enriched and, respective search, retrieval and publishing approaches are evaluated for porting to the e-Infrastructures platform provided by the EUMEDGRID e-Infrastructure and EUMEDCONNECT2 network.

• E-Infrastructure-enabled e-Collaborative Digital Archive protected by access control and rights management. This pilot will put in place two e-collaborative repositories: the De Roberto Digital Repository (De Roberto DR) and the Digital Repository of the Architectural and Archaeological Heritage in the Mediterranean Area (MED Repo).

In June 2011, thanks to the collaboration with the EPIKH project, regulated by a Memorandum of Understanding, a third e-collaborative repository has been integrated: the Digital Repository of China Relics (China Relics DR).

In October 2012, a fourth repository has been integrated: the ICCU Collections.

In November 2012, a fifth repository has been integrated: the CULTNAT Collections.

The pilots can be accessed by the research community via the present e-Culture Science Gateway that provides users with an easy-to-use web interface and a single sign-on authentication mechanism, supporting Identity Federations.

Besides the five repositories mentioned above, the e-Culture Science Gateway includes both the Virtual Performaces applications and the semantic search pilot.

The e-Culture Science Gateway is built on top of the storage resources of the INDICATE project which are available at sites belonging to the EGI infrastructure.
